Some little things to know when traveling in Alaska – “Be Prepared!” No matter what the season, be aware of local weather forecasts while planning your trip to ensure that you have everything you need for a perfect visit! Remember weather conditions can change very quickly in the mountains of Alaska – bring extra food, water, and warm clothes in any season! When your day in the mountains is over make sure you have your Alaskan cabin at Hatcher Pass Bed and Breakfast reserved for a relaxing and wonderful experience in the Talkeetna Mountains just outside Wasilla and Palmer, Alaska.
The Independence Mine and Visitor Center will open for the summer season starting June 16, 2018 through Labor Day, 2018. The gate at the lower parking lot near Hatcher Pass Lodge will be open seven days a week from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. A $5 parking pass is needed to park in the Hatcher Pass area, and a $3 admission fee is charged to visit Independence Mine. The gate over the top of Hatcher Pass to Summit Lake and on to Willow will be open the week of July 4th.

Please visit the Alaska State Parks for weekly updates about the current conditions at Hatcher Pass. When traveling on roads in Alaska the advice is to always be prepared by having snacks, water, and either a sleeping bag or warm blanket in the event you break down.
